The house “Joli” for you and for us !
Imagine a peaceful weekend away from the stresses of city life with the only sounds being the church bell, and the running of water.
Let us cure the headache of a peaceful week-end away! Take with us a relaxing self-indulgent managed break in the heart of Burgundy– favorite resting ground of Parisians.
Paris. Friday, 6.31 pm
Leaving the hustle and bussle of Paris behind you, take the slow train to Châtel Censoir arriving at 9.00 pm promptly. Your private car transfers you to the idyllic cottage Joli, where you are greeted by Marie-Thérèse who welcomes you with an open fire and a freshly prepared home cooked dinner. Marie-Thérèse will be your private tour guide for the property entrusting you for your safe return after the weekend.
Share an aperitif to the easy listening sounds of Glenn Miller, before sitting down to a relaxed locally sourced Burgundy dinner.
Time to unpack and enjoy, you will probably hear 10 bell chimes ringing the 10 pm bell at the Abbey church Saint Potentien, as it has done every evening since the twelfth century. Where were you there 4 hours ago? You are now at the heart of Burgundy, with friends, family and children.
Tomorrow morning you will pick up pastries for breakfast at the Ludivine and Cyril’s bakery and now your relaxing weekend can truly begin.
In the middle of winter, rest and read by the well stocked wood burning fireplace, of which there are two. Perhaps take a stroll up the ancient small streets and visit the Church where splendid views of the region can be enjoyed from the top of this charming viewpoint.
And will begin at the dead of winter, a healing weekend. You will probably spend a good part by the fire! Wood is at will to make fires in the fireplace and in the upper insert. The library is full of comics, thrillers and art books. In the white furniture fair, two drawers of CDs and DVDs. Card games and board games are available. If you want to walk out, you will discover a beautiful and friendly village on the Yonne and the Canal du Nivernais.
The barge pathways have become cycle routes. We are able to provide you with bikes (on request). If you are a climber and the weather allows, you can go and climb Saussois Rocks 5 km from the house. You can also climb through a path. There are also hiking trails around the village. If you wish, Jean-Claude will be your private guide to look for mushrooms and truffles or just to fish in the River – according season!
If you wish to make a cultural tour, a taxi can drive you to Vezelay (15 km) to spend two or three hours in this Unesco World Heritage site: the Basilica is a jewel of romanesque art with its gorgeous interior tympanum and white and black vaults; the Zervos Foundation museum and its modern painting collection located in the former house of French novelist Romain Rolland; and then to complete your visit with a tea and visit to a flea market.
On Saturday evening you may prefer enjoy a wonderful gastronomic experience at Michelin awarded chef Marc Meneau instead of sitting comfortably by the fire in the cottage: you simply have to book the table and the taxi.
Sunday morning, after a long lie in, a brisk walk along the canal you could pay a visit to the local butcher and buy your Sunday roast, after a short stop for an aperitif at Laurence Castel bar. Careful: shopkeepers close at 12:30 but Angelus will remind you the time!
After a long lunch with a good bottle of red Burgundy, perhaps a small siesta before catching the train back to Paris, either the 4.54 train (arrival time in Paris: 7:22 pm), or leaving yourself more time possibly enjoy a walk into the unspoiled countryside and then catch the following train just before 7 pm (arrival time in Paris: 9:45 pm). In any case, the taxi will pick you up at the cottage to drive you to the station.
